The University of Queensland is glad to announce Advanced fMRI Techniques Scholarship to deserving students who are interested in pursuing a degree program at the Institution.

The Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI), a strategic initiative of The University of Queensland, is a leading imaging research facility in Australia, and one of a handful in the world. It unites the skills of a crucial mass of researchers and advanced, world- or Australian-first imaging research equipment comprising NMR, MRI, EPR, CT, PET, optical imaging and an on-site cyclotron and radiochemistry facilities. CAI accommodates the biggest Node of the National Imaging Facility (NIF).

CAI carries out research across the spectrum from analysis of molecular structure, creation of new imaging technologies, synthesis of MRI and PET biomarkers targeting important biological processes to studies of major ailments affecting a variety of organ systems, through to imaging economically substantial agricultural animals and plant material, mineral deposits and construction materials.

A multidisciplinary, unified student community have come together from all around the world to CAI to undergo research training. The Centre possesses an active student association (STAC) that offers many chances for networking and professional growth, a supportive mentoring structure that will improve personal and professional development, a yearly symposium and a well-attended weekly workshop program which draws high profile National and International speakers.

The University of Queensland will offer a living allowance of $28,597 each year (2021 rate), indexed yearly and Single Overseas Student Health Cover ($3,420) is also obtainable.

Selection criteria

  • Applications will be judged on a competitive basis taking into account the applicant’s previous academic record, publication record, honours and awards, and employment history.

  • The applicant will demonstrate academic achievement in the field(s) of neuroimaging / UHF-MRI and the potential for scholastic success.

  • A background or understanding of physics, neuroscience, electrical engineering, magnetic resonance imaging or software engineering is very much preferred.
