Graduate Student Position is needed especially for anyone having interest in Exploring the impact of a subsidized food prescription on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous participants with type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its complications impose a tremendous strain on not just healthcare systems, but individuals, families, communities, and societies worldwide. This is especially true for Canadian Indigenous populations (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis), which continue to be disproportionately burdened by the disease compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts.
Food policies, particularly those that improve affordability of healthy foods, have been shown to improve diet quality among a variety of ethnic groups, including some Indigenous populations. Healthy Food Rx is a province-wide collaborative randomized controlled trial (RCT) to examine the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of a subsidized food prescription program among urban adults with T2D in Alberta who are experiencing food insecurity and persistent hyperglycemia.
In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must:
A subgroup of Indigende persistent hyperglycemia. A subgroup of Indigenous participants will be included in the RCT. Outcome measures in RCTs tend to reflect dominant western social norms, values, and meanings of health.
These measures align with only a small, and specifically framed, part of the reality of Indigenous Peoples, their health and wellbeing, and their worldview. The All My Relations project seeks to give voice to Indigenous participants in the Healthy Food RX RCT and qualitatively explore their experiences of the intervention and their perceptions of its impact on their health and wellbeing.

Scholarship Requirements
In order to be eligible to apply for the scholarship, applicants must:
- a responsible student (ideally a NUFS graduate) interested in the project
- with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
